Belinda Carlisle: Francophile

It has often been said that heaven is a place on Earth. For Belinda Carlisle, that place is apparently somewhere in France. Early next year, the Go-Gos lead singer will be releasing Voila. On the record, Carlisle will be tackling both old and contemporary French material. The old will be traditional French chanson songs, the contemporary will be French pop songs. One of the latter will be Serge Gainsbourg's legendary duet with Brigitte Bardot, "Bonnie and Clyde." The question "why?" comes to mind, as Luna already did a bang-up job of covering the tune, with help from Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier, on Penthouse. But things get interesting again when you consider that members of Portishead and Massive Attack are helping produce the album. Odd, but interesting. And Belinda is still way cute, so the idea of her purring in a sexy French accent is nothing to sneeze at.
