Heavy Hands send Smoke Signals

Even the names of Heavy Hands' members indicate the band's sonic inclinations; with monikers like Ambassador Hazy and Mystical Revelation, you're clued in from the get-go that you're not exactly in Maroon 5 territory here. The New York trio's psychedelic/stoner-rock sound suggests Hawkind jamming with Amon Duul II after a week-long bongfest (FYI, that's a good thing), and soon you'll be able to experience them in all their psych-fetishist glory as heard at last year's Diamond Days festival. Smoke Signals, a recording of their set at said psychfest, is due out on October 21, courtesy of Espers leader Greg Weeks' Language of Stone label (distributed by Drag City). Item of interest: as far as Google seems to be able to tell us, "bong fire," listed amidst the likes of 13th Floor Elevators and Ash Ra Tempel in Heavy Hands' MySpace influences box, is not the name of a band. Make of that information what you will.

Smoke Signals is a great record! Very heavy sound. If I play this music in my car it stops moving, the sound is so heavy. This is one of the best records I have heard in 2008.
