Noel Gallagher dishes on new album title

Oasis tips its hat to Motown for new album title Dig Out Your Soul, Noel Gallagher recently explained. It’s a reference to a DJ playing Motown records who’s “digging out his soul,” Gallagher told BBC 6 Music. But let us not dig too deep into trying to find any more meaning behind the title. “Originally it was going to be called Bag It Up and then it was going to be called The Shock of the Lightning and then it was going to be called Standing On The Edge Of The Noise,” he said. “Dig Out Your Soul is not the best one but Dig Out Your Soul was the best one on a day when we had to choose one.” As for any Motown sounds in the record, don’t count on it. And it’s definitely not Britpop either, Gallagher says. It’s much more experimental, and he doesn’t see any of the tracks getting any radio airplay. (Have any Oasis tunes released this decade received any heavy rotation?) “It's not our usual thing," he said. “It's just really exciting, three of the tracks have got two drummers on, me and Zak [Starkey] playing drums. Some of it sounds a bit glam.”[NME]
